Although these days the college degree has become the new Holy Grail, a high school diploma is still an absolute must. A high school diploma certifies that you completed four years’ worth of math, science, and English, as well as endless teasing from the cool kids and a series of fads.
Earning a high school diploma can be done outside the walls of the local high school. There are options for students for whom high school is simply too horrible to be endured. Parents can choose to home-school their children or invest in a tutor. Community colleges, recognizing that it can be difficult to earn a high school diploma due to extenuating circumstances like learning disabilities or social disorders, have made it possible to earn a GED (general educational development test) through equivalent coursework. The GED is a very good alternative to a high school diploma; more than 15 million students have taken and passed the test.
Of course, there is no substitute for the high school experience. Prom, the homecoming game, a first love and a first heartbreak are all things you’ll experience while earning your high school diploma. Don’t miss the opportunity to do it while you’re young. |
